June's backpack adventure will take place June 3-4 in the Marmot Pass area of the Olympic Peninsula. We'll plan to leave Artondale around 4:00 pm on Friday and camp overnight at the Dungeness Forks campground. We'll get up early the next morning to backpack about 8 miles of the Tubal Cain trail to the high elevation Buckhorn Lake, with stops to check our a B-17 crash site and the Tubal Cain mine site along the way.

We'll camp overnight at the remote wilderness Buckhorn Lake camp, and hike 6.2 miles out Sunday morning, with the expectation to be back at Artondale elementary by early afternoon on Sunday the 5th.

This is a backpacking trip, and so we'll be traveling without the troop trailer and the boys will need to carry their gear. We are limited by the Forest Service wilderness rules to 12 participants, first come-first-served.

More about the hike can be found at:

At present, troop leadership planning to attend includes Ned Waltz, Bill Toney, and/or Andy Morgan. We would welcome any additions. A lot of the boys in the troop may not yet have been on a backpack. This would probably be a good starter trip for many, however you are the best judge of their ability after reading the trip description. We will go, rain or shine. As a parent, if you have any concerns about their ability, please consider joining us. We'd love to have you along. It should be a great trip.
